Adverb Clauses

A.Structure Exercises
I.Substitution
            You did not tell me when we left school.
Because you were angry
You did not tell me because you were angry.

1.While we were together
2.As you should have done
3.A few days before I left
4.Since you did not meet me
5.As soon as you could

I.Use the adverb clauses in brackets instead of the adverbs or adverb phrases in the sentences.

Example:
1.I wanted to spend my time wisely. (as I thought best)
   I wanted to spend my time as I thought best
2.Having nothing to do, I went to see a movie. (because I had nothing to do)
  Because I had nothing to do. I went to see a movie

I.Give long answers using the adverb clauses in brackets and the right conjunctions

Example:
1.How did you spend your time? (Ithought best)
   I spent it as I thought best

2.Where did the accident happen? (the street turns)
   It happen where the street turns

I.Substitution the given adverbial caluses for the adverb or adverbial phrases in italics

Example:
1.Before 1620, some Englishmen felt very unhappy staying in England (where they were)
  Before 1620, some Englishmen felt very unhappy staying where they were

I.Join the sentences by using unless, although, if, or because correctly as a conjunction.

Example:
1.They started to grow their first crops. Everything was new to them then.
   They started to grow their first crops although everything was new to them then.

2.Answer the following question. Include yhe given sentences in the answer as     adverbial clauses by adding where, because, or when as conjunction.

Example:
1.Why did many of the first Englishmen in New England die? (the winter was much     colder than what they were used to)
Many of them died because the winter was much colder then what they were used to.

I.Substitute adverbial clauses using the given conjunctions for the participial phrases in the sentences.

Example:
1.Being religious people, the first Englishmen who settled in New England were not easily discouraged (because)
The first Englishmen who settled in New England were not easily discouraged, because they were religious people.
